1933 Shanghai Slaughterhouse Trip

Hi guys!
I'm back and this time I want to share with all of you a couple of photos from a little outing trip with my friends here in Shanghai during golden week.

We went to a place called 1933 Shanghai Slaughterhouse.
Yes it does sound scary but no it's actually not haha.
Well it was an actual slaughterhouse in the 1933, but now it's mainly a place for people to take photos.

This place is basically one giant maze with 5 floors and a rooftop garden.

The way to go up to the rooftop garden is only one, you need to order something from this cafe.
They will give you some kind of a ticket to go up.
The staircase is right in front of the cafe.

The rooftop has a glasshouse and an open garden.
Well, it's not really a real garden, they're there just for decorations.
It looks well-kept so it's clean and nice.

Even though it was short, I enjoyed it so much!
Knowing myself, I would go more often to these types of places if I knew, but I don't haha
I love the whole rooftop garden, however the downside is that it's not freely available for everyone to go and the scenery is just.. mostly buildings..

Huge thanks to my friends for inviting me and my photographer / friend / housemate / classmate for taking pictures for me haha
Hope I can visit more artistic spots once I clear out my uni schedule.

OH AND ONE MORE THING I'VE BEEN WANTING TO GO TO THE NEW SHANGHAI DISNEYLAND!
I'm planning to go during the weekdays and picking a time when not a lot of people are on holidays 'cause I'm guessing the place will be packed.
I've heard a lot of things (which aren't very pleasant) about the new Disneyland here, but it IS the biggest one so far so I have to go!
Promise will tell you all about it~

Very exciting things are coming and I'm currently making plans to try Youtube-ing *hint hint* but I'll just leave it at that for now lol
Hope you guys are having a very good day, I know I am 'cause class was cancelled woohoo!

See ya in the next one!

Must-watch Japanese Animated Movies for Summer

Hello hello how are you all~
Summer is ending and for most of us school is starting.
It's only been 2 weeks since I started going back to uni, even though last week we had a few more holidays and the weekends, I'm still dragging myself out of bed every morning.

The reason being I've been so obsessed with Japanese animated movies lately! (Sorry-not-sorry for being a geek hahahahahaha)
So today I have some recommendations to save yourselves from back-to-school depression.
Almost all of these movies are family-oriented and perfect for summer.
I've loved animation for as long as I can remember, so I hope you can check out some of these and share with me what you think!

-

Hotarubi no Mori e - Into the Forest of Firefly Lights (2011)
Intrigued by the tale of a mountain god, six-year-old Hotaru Takegawa loses her way in the ancient forest while visiting her uncle. Exhausted and desperate for help, Hotaru is thrilled to find a masked forest spirit named Gin. She learns the hard way that she should not touch the boy, or he would disappear. In spite of this, Gin leads Hotaru out of the forest and warns her never to return when she promises to come again with a gift.
Comment: I don't know why, this movie touches me. I legit cried at the last part. It's beautiful and yet so sad.

Koe no Katachi - A Silent Voice (2016)
Ishida Shouya bullies a deaf girl, Nishimiya Shouko, to the point that she transfers to another school. As a result, he is ostracized and bullied himself with no friends to speak of and no plans for the future.
Comment: I haven't watched this yet, but I've seen the trailer. It was released 2 days ago (17 Sept) and I'm still waiting for subtitles hehe I have a feeling that I will love this movie so much.

-

Ookami Kodomo no Ame to Yuki - Wolf Children (2012)
Hana, a hard-working college student, falls in love with a mysterious man who attends one of her classes though he is not an actual student. As it turns out, he is not truly human either. On a full moon night, he transforms, revealing that he is the last werewolf alive. Despite this, Hana's love remains strong, and the two ultimately decide to start a family.
Comment: This movie is legit so good, teaches me a lot of things (I don't wanna spoil anything lol) and a definite recommendation for everyone!

-

Bakemono no Ko - The Boy and The Beast (2015)
Bakemono no Ko is the tale of a boy and a beast: both lonely, both stubborn, and both strong. For nine-year-old Ren, things could hardly be worse. His mother has passed away in a traffic accident, his father is nowhere to be found, and his extended family is cold and distant. Desperate, Ren runs away to the mean streets of Shibuya to try and survive on his own.
Comment: Some of you might think that this story-line is very mainstream and will get the whole moral after the first half an hour, but I still love this. The animation itself is so good!

-

Summer Wars (2009)
Kenji Koiso is a 17-year-old math genius and part-time OZ moderator who is invited by his crush Natsuki Shinohara on a summer trip. But unbeknownst to him, this adventure requires him to act as her fiancé. Shortly after arriving at Natsuki's family's estate, which is preparing for her great-grandmother's 90th birthday, he receives a strange, coded message on his cell phone from an unknown sender who challenges him to solve it. Kenji is able to crack the code, but little does he know that his math expertise has just put Earth in great danger.
Comment: If you're a gamer (or was), all that knowledge might help while watching this haha!

-

To add to the list, any Studio Ghibli Movies!
My favorites are:
Howl no Ugoku Shiro - Howl's Moving Castle (2004)
That jumbled piece of architecture, that cacophony of hissing steam and creaking joints, with smoke billowing from it as it moves on its own... That castle is home to the magnificent wizard Howl, infamous for both his magical prowess and for being a womanizer—or so the rumor goes in Sophie Hatter's small town. Sophie, as the plain daughter of a hatmaker, does not expect much from her future and is content with working hard in the shop.

-

Karigurashi no Arrietty - The Secret World of Arrietty (2010)
The world can be a very scary place when you’re small. For Arrietty, though, the only real fear in life is in missing out on a big adventure. 14-year-old Arrietty and her parents live in the small spaces of a human garden. They are what some might call “borrowers”; they take items from the human world to eke out a living amidst the shadows.

-

Sen to Chihiro no Kamikakushi - Spirited Away (2001)
Stubborn, spoiled, and naïve, 10-year-old Chihiro Ogino is less than pleased when she and her parents discover an abandoned amusement park on the way to their new house. Cautiously venturing inside, she realizes that there is more to this place than meets the eye, as strange things begin to happen once dusk falls. Ghostly apparitions and food that turns her parents into pigs are just the start—Chihiro has unwittingly crossed over into the spirit world. Now trapped, she must summon the courage to live and work amongst spirits, with the help of the enigmatic Haku and the cast of unique characters she meets along the way.
Comment: Yep, most of us probably already watched this one. This movie is literally what made my childhood. A classic favorite!

-

I highly recommend watching them in Japanese with English subtitles.
It's not that I have anything against English dubs, but I feel like the expressions used are clearer and it just feels right lol
If you have any recommendations on other movies and anime (especially action-fantasy-romance-related stuff), please let me know!

I hope you get to check these out AND FANGIRL WITH ME HAHAHA
Good luck for all of you in school and with work, don't be too sad that summer is almost over!
See you in the next one~

Batik All-day Everyday

Welcome to another post here in CHEKBOKS!
I have a very exciting and wonderful content to share with you all.
As Indonesians, batik is an essential to have in our wardrobes.
Whether as casual or formalwear, batik is a definite must-have.

Batik is one of Indonesia's proud piece of art that all of society need to embrace.
However in these modern days, batik is not given as much appreciation it deserves.
To most people, batik appears as a traditional thing, as to why it is not very appealing to the younger audience.

On a better note, there are numerous pieces of modern batik being developed by Indonesian designers and this brings joy to my heart.
Today I want to share with you how I style some pieces that I currently own.
These does not dictate on how to style particular pieces, but to give examples and/or ideas on how to put together outfits that has both batik and to give off a modern feel.

I hope you enjoy and see you at the end of the post!

-

The first piece is this batik print square cardigan.
Why is this square?
Because the construction of this cardigan and the rectangular shape.

The way I styled this is quite casual.
I wore a black cropped shirt, dark greeen pants, threw in a light gold necklace and black strappy heels to complete the whole outfit.

Cardigan : Caroline Kosasih

-

Second, I have this gorgeous super-high-waisted batik wide pants.
I'm head over heels for these pants and is one of the statement pieces I have in my wardrobe.
The fabric is a uniquely woven batik print and the colors are just stunning.
The cut is higher compared to a usual high-waisted pair of pants.
Nonetheless, it is very comfortable to wear.

It's definitely a formal type of outfit.
Rock up to a party or an important event and blind everyone with this colorful ensemble.
The key to styling these types of garments with loads of colors is to pick one color and wear a top/bottom in a similar shade.
Also, try to have minimal accessories or maybe a bag with a muted plain color.
Originally, I wanted to pair this with a mustard color top but I couldn't find any.

Pants : Esayuri

-

The third and last piece is this super-wide pants.
The batik print on these ones are somewhere in between traditional and modern.
It is so comfortable and very versatile.

It has a high side-split to compliment the wide hem design.
A creatively-made pair of pants and I totally love it.
I can wear this outfit to any formal event but, it's not too formal so it's still casual.
Effortless!

Ta-dah~
Favorite shot of the whole shoot! (and the only one where my arms aren't as thick... /cries)
I wore a sleeveless top with a side bow design and a gold necklace.

Pants : Ethereal

-

This concludes today's post, I hope you all enjoyed and are inspired!
As always, I appreciate your love and support for this blog so thank you!

I would also like to encourage you to appreciate more of what batik has to offer.
It is ours to keep and with a little twist, all of us can enjoy it more.
It's beautiful, it's versatile, it's Indonesia!

See you on the next one~

My Life So Far

Hello people from all over the world~
I'm back from a (super) long hiatus from writing.
I'm sorry I didn't tell you guys beforehand, but I'm going to explain myself in this post.
About how my life is so far from my last blog post until now and what plans I have.
Hope you'll stick around until the end.

Lets a-go-go~

-

If you guys are close friends of mine, or you follow me on Instagram and Snapchat, you might know that I'm not in Melbourne anymore /cries
That's because there were sudden change of plans on my study.
And so I have moved to Shanghai, China.

Some of you might not know but Internet in China is very limited if you're from other countries besides China, so I haven't been able to write.
Practically, all of the usual applications and social media that most of us use are blocked.
But with the help of VPNs (even though they're slow as heck) I was at least able to use my apps.
First time moving to another country feels.. weird.
Especially that I'm alone without any of my siblings (I was with my sister in Melbourne).
Good thing that some of my cousin's friends were already there in the same university (if you guys didn't know, I study fashion design*^^*)
I was able to move in the same house as them.
I lived with 4 other girls in the first 4 months.
In school I hangout with 3 of my new friends and I'm so grateful to them that they started talking to me first.
Because I was just an awkward tomato with pink hair.

THANK THE LORD FOR K-POP!!!
For the hundredth time in my life, I'm so grateful that I love K-pop.
Through it, I've met a lot of nice people and made great friends.
Not only that, everytime I feel lonely and anxious, listening to good music helps, a lot.

-
At the end of June, I decided to move to a different apartment together with 2 of my friends.
It's sad that I had to part with my 4 housemates, but I was thinking it's much more convenient to live with people from the same school year.
Moving was tiring, especially it was in the middle of our exams.
We ran into some (quite serious) problems renting the new apartment, but thank God that we got through it with the help of our super nice friends and families (if you guys are reading this YOU DA REAL MVP<3 p="">
Everyday was fun and we even got a chance to go and watch BTS!

-

In July, we went to Nanjing together (4 of us) to watch BTS Epilogue in Nanjing.
AND OH MY LORD IT WAS SO EPIC!
(lol sorry for then sudden fangirling:p)
This is the 3rd concert I went to so far (1st was BTS Red Bullet in Singapore, 2nd was 2015 MAMA)
It was sooooooooo much fun since I went with friends who are the same crazy level of fangirls.
We even vlogged the entire trip including bits of the concert!
Check it out down below~
It was raining the whole day and we stood to wait for 6 hours.
We were pretty much tired and very wet, but this is the life of a fangirl so..
The Chinese ARMYs were so sweet, they made banners for everyone who came to the concert and held it up during the concert.
I'm sure they made BTS very happy~
We sat in the circle above the side seats, we were pretty far but the view wasn't that bad.
We gave hearts to them and I hope they saw us lol.
We also met a Chinese fangirl before the concert, she was so nice and gave us stuff haha~
She shares lots of pictures that she took during the concert as well (yes, cameras were allowed).

-

Now, I am back in Indo for the holidays.
It's pretty hot here and I don't really go out much, so I just laze around the house.
I'm learning a bit of video editing too (the vlog was edited by me~)
I'm going to recolor my hair in a few days because my regrowth are so long now.
I shall update in Instagram, so if you're curious don't forget to follow me!

-

As for K-pop songs, I have a few new favorites from recent comebacks.
I will list some of my recommendations below:

He is an inspiration to me, even with his disability he is able to confidently perform with all his might.

-

I have plans to go to Melbourne this month until August, so happy and excited.
I miss Melbourne so much!
Finally can take more #OOTDs and dance again with FLARE and my girls.
You can look forward to more of HUSTLE's covers in the future yay~

-

This wrapped up the stuff that has been going on in my life so far.
Some ups, downs, and surprises hahaha~
I would love to hear your opinions on the vlog that I edited so make sure to comment on YouTube.
I really appreciate it!

For newcomers, I WELCOME YOU TO MY BLOG!
I may not update as much, but your visit makes my day 999999x better hehe

If you wanna check out all the other ones before this, links down below:

Sometimes you need a good amount of thinking to get you going, especially in bad times.
And indulging yourself in reading is one good way to escape from life once in a while.
Let your imagination fly and mind cleared, then you can once again overcome obstacles.

A little ensemble for a day out for brunch and a good book.
This 3/4 wide denim pants are my current favorite!
I'm also hunting for another pair of culottes too haha
Tell me if you guys find good ones around!
